Well tomorrow night i got my first big tourny. There are only 24 people in it as of yet. that means only top 3 get paid. I really need a top 3 finish so any advice on how i should approach my first table and any strats on how to put myself in good position to win. I usually play tight agressive. But i always seem to get donk callers that miracle runner runner on me. so my start ain't working. Anyways any help would be great. cheers..

try getting more aggressive after the first 20 or so tight hands.

If your stack is getting small, you have to shove them in sometime. Ideally, you want to be raising all in so you have some fold equity, but depending how many chips you have, what the table action is like, etc., you may not have that luxury. If not, then just pick a hand and shove. Don't necessarily wait for high cards. It's often better to play two rags if you can get against one opponent rather than two paints against multiple opponents.
Cheers!

Well done! Didn't see your post until today so I couldn't give you my two cents worth, but when you do this again, my advice is to not enter a pissing contest with those bullies, no matter how long they are on. Learn you table as quickly as possible. Remember one golden rule. When you are at a new table take a few minutes to study each of your opponents. If after 20 minutes you haven't found the fish...it's you! Watch those slow players, and over aggressive players and pace yourself!

i find it best 2 just sit tight for the first 15 to 20 hands and get a feel for the table, once i have a fair idea of wot and how people are playing i then decide on how i'm going to play. i don't think you can go into a tournament with a game plan as every tournament is different.

I not especially a lot of time play poker, but time it is necessary to enter from 3 best then it is necessary to look on a situation, to look narrowly at players and the more so to try to understand their strategy.

I am trying out strategy advised by Scott Fischman in his book "online ace". In early stages when blinds are small, only play premium hands ie AA - JJ and AK. If not raised also call with Ax suited and any pocket pair. Fold the Ax suited if you dont hit flush on flop, and the pocket pairs if you dont hit trips on flop, unless you can see the turn and river for free. Its early days but of the two stt I have played, I won one and came second in the other! The basic strategy should work in early stages of most tournements, and should get you started - read the book for the rest!.
